Messenger (by ashterisk) is a client for yahoo messenger service. With Messenger (by ashterisk), you can now communicate with your friends and family in real time with nice SMS style conversation view. Messenger (by ashterisk) will alert you on new messages as well and notify you of new emails.

Please let me know if in the very near future an update will be available that aloows for switching of the notifications sounds. If not, I will have to resort to another YM app, because the constant sounds drive me crazy!

I see messenger supports the “run under lock” feature. Does it support multitasking? In other words, can I be in messenger, take a call, or work on an Office document while messenger is still logged in and running?

No, Windows phone 7 doesn’t support multi-tasking thus there is no way a 3rd party application can support this.

I bought a new phone LG Quantum and it has Window 7 on it. The clerk at ATT downloaded the instant messager for me, now my question is that when I had my old phone I would get a notification when someone im me. On this phone I get no notification at all. My other phone would chime and put that I had one new message. How can I get notification. Thank you Jeannie

I am trying to pair the phone with the computer for toast notifications. On the computer end, I am logged, and everything seems fine. On the cell end, though, I press “start pairing” and nothing happens (all the info, like IP, port, is entered correctly, and I use the paid version). On the computer there is nothing under status, and the message above status is “Logged in successfully, waiting for phone pairing connection @ port 8888”.
Can you help?

You need to make sure that your phone can reach computer. Do you have any firewall on the computer may be blocking the port for incoming request? If the phone can reach the computer, the status should changed to “pairing successful”.

Please make sure when you are doing this pairing, you are using wifi and not GSM as when connected thru GSM, the phone will not find the PC inside your Home LAN.

This pairing is currently required as windows phone currently doesn’t allow app to be running in the background. The PC companion app is the one which send the notification to phone when a new message arrives.
You can run the companion app on any computer connected to internet (for ex, home) and you are not require to open any port etc (so this should work even in enterprise setup).
This is currenlty the limitation and only way to get push notifications. But I hope its a simple setup which users can perform and get notifications which is critical for any IM app.

Same problem as Cezar above, so how do I make sure the phone can reach the computer? I am stuck with no status and nothing happens when I hit Start Pairing?

Please make sure firewall is either disabled or have option to open ports for the PC companion app. Make sure you are entering the IP address and if that doesn’t work, you can also try enter PC name. Those are the only 2 things.

You need to specify both ipadress and port and make sure phone can reach PC. Your phone should be connected to WiFi in order to reach PC.

Does the push only work if you are connected to the same network as the PC you are paired to?

No, Push should work even when your phone is in a different network as long as it has data or wifi. Pairing is only required to have the push notification url shared by phone with PC companion.
But please note, if you login at other mesenger client, you will be required to re-pair.

Hi, i have paired my phone with my pc for messenger, does the pc need to stay on all the time? The pc restarted after an update and i had to re-pair the phone so does this happen every time i turn the pc off?

i still get no push notifcation when i recieve new im unless iam on the im once i leave the app i dont get notification unless i go back to it why yes im paired with my pc just did latest update yesterday 7-12-11 and i have paid version this relly sucks dude yahoo was free on my other phone great notifcation and all i cant believe i paid for this crap then downloaded more crap on my pc and it still dont work you should make sure what your selling or getting contracts for works before you start ripping off people very dissapointed.

sorry to hear. you should be getting notifications as long as you haven’t signed into other messenger client (or even mail.yahoo.com as it logs you out from messenger). I will make it better in the future.

I am running the paid version of message on a windows7 LG quantum.. I sign into messenger and can’t return to the main screen on my phone without being booted off the messenger system, not being able to receive messages until I return to the app and re-log in.. Is this a limitation to messenger and my phone or am I doing something wrong? I tried the pairing thing, which I have no real clue to what that even does or the toasting things.. I want to remain logged into messenger and to be able to do just about anything else but shut the phone off completely.. And if this is a limitation to the phone, is there a fix for this problem foreseeable anytime in the future?

This is a limitation of phone an app get killed when switch out of it. The way to support the scenario is by having direct support from yahoo for this or for me to run a server which keeps pooling with yahoo. The second one is not scalable.
The pairing is to work around the limitation where you can run the companion app in your home PC and pair your phone with it. With that the app can notification when new message is received with needing to have the app running.

Messenger hasn’t worked all day for me. Every time I try to log in it says unauthorized session try again. And my user name and password are right. Its not saying that its saying unauthorized session. I can’t get on and I’m with my friends.. So what good is it?

Hi,
I have your yahoo messenenger app on my HTC radar phone, it glitches so bad in the following ways: my phones speakers crackle every minute or so even when im not using the app and the phone is on standby. Also the keyboard on my screen dissapears while im typing mid sentence. seriously sounds like ur app is shorting out my phone and I don’t think it could b good for my phone. Also the app stays open even when I log off and shut it down. Why so many annoying issues?

the app has background agent which uses the media pipeline. I have not heard this issue before but you can try disabling background agent from settings. See if that helps.

Those must be sms notification. You can check them from messaging app. Nothing to do with messenger app.

When Backgroud agent is enabled I get notifications. The number of notifications apear on my lock wallpaper. I dont know how to see my notifications and I can not delete them. I have Nokia Lumia 800, and the free version of messenger.

Ever since I installed this app anytime im typing my keyboard will disappear and won’t some back unless I tap off the text box then click back on. This has happened 7 times since I began to leave this comment. Its never happened until installing this app. Its extremely annoying. It happens while texting, emailing, ECT. How do I get it to stop and how do I uninstall the app. This is the only thing I have installed in 3 weeks and lve never had any issues on this 4 month old HTC radar.

This was a bug in windows phone that whenever a background agent is launched, it used to dismiss the sip. Its suppose to be fixed in new updates. Is your phone software upto date. You can always uninstall the application but tap holding in application list.

It would be Really Helpful to have a Section for Saved Contacts, so we wouldn’t have to scroll through a whole big list of people that we don’t know just so we can get to the people that we do know and have as our Contacts.
