XBMC Remote for windows phone 7
XBMC Remote for Windows Phone 7 is an application built from ground up to control your xbox media center (http://www.xbmc.org) from your phone. You can browse your entire catalog while a movie or music might be playing on the TV. Its especially useful when you TV is turned off and you want to select Audio Albums and queue them to play on the audio reciever.

I just installed XBMC Remote on my Windows phone 7, have not been able to get it to work. I have the Samsung focus. when I enter the user name and password I get connection failed to xbmc. please help

Please make sure your connection information is accurate. You can validate this by going to http://yourxbmcservernameorip:port/jsonrpc. If you see jsonrpc working, that means everything is correct, otherwise you have some connection problems.

on pc start xbmc, system, network, allow control of xbmc thru http yes
port 80
usrname xbmc
password xbmc(example)
allow programs on this system to control xbmc yes
allow programs on other systems to control xbmc yes
start app on phone, at bottom press the three dots … click connections, click +, friendly name XBMC (all Capitals), server name ip address (ie. 192.168.0.100), port 80, username xbmc (lower case), password xbmc ( whatever you chose above i used xbmc twice as an example). thats it save and click the connection. once connected i clicked remote, and on phone you ll see a picture of a remote buttons, when u touch screen it will control yur xbmc on pc, might take a second or two i noticed a little lag,

Thanks. No the interface for boxee is much limited so the full remote wouldn’t work. But I just create a new remote control application for Boxee. Try it out.

Hey,
This is a great app! I really love it.
Couple of things which I have noticed:
-Not all of my music albums appear in the albums list?
-Not all of the artists names load up, I need to manually load more? Is there a way to load all of the names at once?
-Is there an ability to include more player controls on the bottom bar instead of just the ‘play’ button?
I am running the latest version of Dharma (10.0).

Hi, In the settings, you have options for loading number of items in a single request. By default its 100. You can increase it to get more items but it might slow down the page loading.
There is no support for adding more buttons. What buttons are you looking for?

Hi,
great App – support for the phone search button would be great. My music Collection is really huge and I would like to search by more than the first letter and I would like to search across Artist/Album/Songs. I don’t know the Web Service API of XBMC, but I think, that should be possible. I think a dedicated Search panoramic view would be great – including storing the last searches for quick access.
What about sharing the source Code?

I just started using your trial for the remote. I can use the remote portion (which is awesome)with no issue but none of my media in xbmc shows up when I try to browse for it. I would really like to see how this works in your app before I make my final decision on which remote to purchase. Any idea on what I may be doing wrong?

xbox doesn’t support json-rpc and thus it would be really difficult to do that. I believe the remote control part of the app should work for xboxes as well.

Well I don´t know what’s the issue exactly but at least for movie and tv shows the Box Remote app works fine. It just ain´t got a possibility to view the music. And it doen´t look as good and works as smooth as this app here. I thought there might be a possibility. Android and IOS can do it aswell. But I am not into programming, so I leave this up to you. Would be perfect if the app could get that feature.

It could be because they might be using the old http api interface which is going to be deperecated. I will investigate more as time permits and will let you know.

Hello, i’ve just purchased a full license of your app: worth every penny!
Just a couple of suggestions for future developement if you don’t mind:
1)a search function would be a great addition expecially for music: it’s not uncommon to have a huge library and simply browsing through thousands of albums and hundreads of artists (let alone tens of thousands of songs!) can become a pain.
2)it would be great to have the possibility to check album and artist info from the app…and, why not, lyrics for the song currently being played.
As a final note the app works perfectly with apple TV 2nd gen (hacked with XBMC installed of course)…actually your app works even better than the original apple remote!

Hey, Great remote, works brilliantly other than one thing, the remote function works properly, moving left and right through movies and tv shows etc works fine, the problem I am having is when i click on a specific tv episode or movie i cant move left and right to play it or even go back, i have to go to my pc to press back on the keyboard, it then runs all the requests I made in the info screen at once.

Hi Ash, nice work. It works like a charm and look really nice – except the App-Icon, terrible. If u like i make you example for a icon that fits the Metro-style a bit more.
So, i`m using this while working on my pc. And i would love to have the ability to say, that if the phone is connected via usb or other electricity, then keep the screen alive the whole time. till exit or till unpluged.
Its a pain in the ass to make three steps till skipping to the next track 🙂
Not your fault by the way.
But i would really appreciate, if you implement this.
And, there is no Partymode-Option for playing the whole library in shuffle mode. This would be nice ether. but is not so urgend, like the screen-thing.

My Q – when browsing library content in the app, can it pull from upnp sources? all of my media is stored on a different machine than the one running xbmc and I haven’t figured out if I just have a setting misconfigured somewhere.

just purchased you app. it’s wonderful. There is one problem and that seems to be similar to Alex’ problem above. Whenever a context menu is opened (similar to a right mouse click, e.g. to get movie info, or info on other items, a pop-up window with options like settings, movie info, etc), the remote gets trapped and none of the buttons close the context menu (like an escape or close key). I have to use the physical remote to escape or go back to close the context menu. Nothing within the context menu works either (going right or left on buttons, fields in the context menu).
As mentioned by others, a search implementation for music would be great.
Other than that, the app is really great.

hi, the app is great, but i have the same problems as “Derausgewanderte”. if i hit the menu button i can only use the mouse to get back the control.
if i start a movie from the list, it looks like the connection to the server is lost?!
the same problem while shutting down the system, open the menu works, but this was the last action i can do. i hope this could be fixed! thx

just bought full version, but i still cant see more than 10 albums on the screen.
There is even no “next page” button like on songs or artits screen. how can i fix that?

Please go into settings and update the page size to something bigger. Regarding not showing next page, I believe this because of any issue in xbmc where it doesn’t return correct media count. I will investigate more.

I use this app Everyday but 2 things is broken.
There is no collection support, so I play movies in collection.
The other thing is already reported it frezzes after open dialog if you press “wrong” buttons on the remote.
Hope you fix these issues.

in the “titles” I only have the title, fanart and two 0 under the title but nothing else. if I go into details, I see some fanart, but info is empty plot is empty too. the only place where the details are complete it is in “recent”, where some records are complete and the play button works well. in the TV everything works perfectly. I bought the full version, I uninstalled for testing, but it made no difference.
Is there a way to find what’s wrong?

thanks for your help, the problem is the group of film into saga. I use a scraper who add the saga parameter into metadata to group together in a same film saga. I thinks this parameter is note compattible with XBMC remote?

Really nice looking app! Can’t wait to see the mango version! (ur planning to release one for mango right?) I’m also hoping for a remote section in the app that works flawless. Especially the OSD section on all the remotes I’ve tried so far isn’t working. When the OSD pops up, u can’t close it, neither navigate in it.. Android has a working remote and I really hope that WP7 will get it as well 🙂 Keep up the good work!

Not any special features I can think of… I think the official app for Android is really good, so if you can manage to implent almost the same features for mango, I know many people who will be really greatful! (myself included) I think the remote section is really important to get working. It has to be able to navigate through the entire XBMC (also the OSD) and control features like, Play, skip, stop ++. 🙂

Hi I purchased your app and I’m having some trouble with it.
The remote part works fine but if i try to bring up my movie or TV libraries on the phone it says connection failed. Can you please help?

does the remote actually work? You might not have specified correct connection info or something wrong in communication. The remote interface doesn’t validate the connection.
Can you check that ?

I have this exact same issue. I know for sure the connection is setup correctly. Also when I connect to the jsonrpc page I receive the message “JSONRPC active and working”, but when I go to one of the libraries I get the message “current operation failed, please check your network….”

What version of XBMC are you using? Its tested with Dharma and not yet ready for lastest beta builds.

Awsome nice looking app, just bought it, if works flawless when you use in to start a movie/Ep. trought the program, but if you want to use it as an remote, nothing happens or sometimes it´s a really nasty lag, the menu dosent work and the xbmc crash.

i ment when an ep or movies is running and fo example i want to use the app as a remote to change subtitle, then nothing happend, one button “info” is working but the i can´t get rid of the “info-field”

@ashterisk Hey bought the app and love it,.. but I’ve been running the latest nightly builds for xbmc, so currently all that works is the remote part of the app and not the Movies, Music, Tv sections.
As Eden is close to finished will you be releasing a eden ready mango enabled xbmc version of your app???

Yes, the current version is not compatible with Eden. The reason I have not updated it for that because the apis are not compatible. I definetly want to update it for Eden but it would be closer to the release as I am not sure how many people are using Eden just yet.

Hi dood, first of all , great app! I am one of those early purchasers of this app and I remember it working great with library functions (tv/movie/music) and everything. I do however update to nightly builds of xbmc at least twice weekly and so various features have ,over time, stopped working . (now everything but some parts of remote screen). So naturally I am keen to get my paid app fully functional again 😉 context menu is important so old make sure that button does not lock the app. As for new functions , media info (actor/synopsis /director etc) for media library would be cool, and of course a search function. BUT for now ill be completely happy with a mango /eden compatible app that is working in all its glory! Thanks for making my fav xbmc app dood , plz fix it so I can use it again!

I do not get it to work in the trial version. On the page where you fill in server, pw, etc there is no save button, it that correct.
The message I get when I try to operate is saying that I am timed out…..
Would love to use it.

The software keyboard covers the save button and you would have to scroll it up to see the button. You can dismiss the board by clicking outside the textbox.

Loving this app. A couple of questions:
In my collection, TV show banners are listed as “banner.jpg” and posters are folder.jpg. Your app shows the posters in wide-banner view. Can you make an option to use the banner.jpg files for the banner view?
