SiriusXM Buddy – for windows phone 7
SiriusXM Buddy is a premium client application for windows phone 7 to listen to sirius/xm satellite radio using your windows phone. It built specifically thinking about windows phone metro design and I am sure you will like it as much as I enjoyed building it.
Some of the features are –
- Full channel list with details like current song, album, artist
- Detailed info including album coverart & detailed program info.
- Ability to mark channels to favorite list for easy browing.
- Dynamic program info gets updated every 30 secs for an upto date details.
- Nice home page view of your currently playing channels.
- Not but least, if you don’t have a subscription, a direct link for your 7 day trial.
The application will be available on marketplace soon and I am hoping to price it for $1.99. A free/trail version will be available as well with full functionality but will be showing ads.

I just purchased your app based on what you said the app would do. However it does display what is currently playing or any album art. I would like to know why this is. At this point I am disappointed and would like a solution.

I am assuming you meant that it doesn’t display album art or other information. I will display but the first time it takes few seconds to download all the information and will refresh every 30 secs. I let the app run for 5 minutes but no info came through or updated. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the app and now the info downloads.
Since I can now see what’s on I tried Jam On channel 29 and it comes back with “Media Playback failed. Invalid URL: The URL scheme is not valid.”
This also happened with Simon & Garfunkel channel 810, channel 812, channel 813, and Pearl Jam Radio channel 22 so far.

i bought the app last night and worked like a charm! today, everytime i go to start the app, it takes me to the login page and the second i try to enter the password (or touch the screen anywhere) it goes back to the list of apps in my phone? help, what should i do??

The two main channels I wanted this for are The Virus and the PGA Tour Network. Both return an error saying “Media playback failed: Invalid URI: The URI scheme is not valid.”
It seems like this problem is affecting a number of 3rd party Sirius/XM apps for both WP7 and Windows XP/Vista/7. It all started when they rearranged the channels back in May. Do you have any way of overcoming this? If so, I’ll happily pay for the app.
Also, will SiriusXM Buddy work with a wireless bluetooth headset?

SiriusXM Buddy dynamically loads the channel list and will cache it until the user refresh it. So it should be much better in handling the channel lineup.
Inspite of that, there are few channels which doesn’t work as most of the 3rd party apps use previous windows media streaming server and it seems these channels are not available there.
This was my first release so I wanted to bring it to parity. My next steps would be to find a better mechanism where you can get all the channels.
I haven’t tested with wireless bluetooth but it does work in my car bluetooth pairing.

I’ve installed and reinstalled. I can’t log in because it keeps jumping back to the home screen. None of the entertainment and pop channels broadcast. I tried the trial version twice and a purchased the upgrade. I’m using an xm subscription before the merger that worked perfectly with BlackBerry.

I just tested these 2 channels and they both work fine. I am using the siriusxm 7 day free trial. Both “The Virus” and “The PGA Tour Network” play perfectly for me.

Interesting, I still can’t. Is your account originally a Sirius account, an XM account, or was your subscription purchased after the merger? I’ve read that even though you’d think there isnt a difference, there actually is. I don’t know, it’s frustrating (not your app, talking about Sirius/XMs ability to screw stuff up).

I am using a subscription after the merger. Is your account before the merger and is it sirius or xm? as I mentioned in my app, I have less confidence on old XM accounts. Unfortuently, I have not way of testing it and that’s the main problem.

This app doesn’t work for me or anyone else who has downloaded it for free or paid or with the xm membership or with the sirius membership. It just plain and simply doesn’t work and is a ripoff. SiriusXM says there is no app for the Windows Phone.

This app is not from siriusxm, its a third party app as mentioned in the desciption of the app on marketplace. Here is the link to the marketplace (read the bottom part of disclaimer).

Also, this app does work and its working for many people. Also, there is trial support available which mean anybody can try it out before purchasing. If you feel like you are ripped off, I am sure marketplace can help you get your refund.

sorry, that’s the limiation of most of the siriusxm app as there is no supported apis. I have a trial version and free version in the hope that people will try it before purchasing

The app for BlackBerry and Android phones work perfectily. SiriusXM Buddy is a ripoff. It doesn’t work and SiriusXM says there is no app for the Windows Phone. So Windows Phone should be informed that this is a bogus, non-functional app and so should SiriusXM.

You can uninstall by press and hold on application icon in your application list. You will not be charged twice when you install again.

This should only happen for few channels depending on your account. Do you have Sirius or XM account?

Mine is working great. Yes, there are some stations that has the err msg … Media play back fails .. Like fox news channel not working, but CNN and MSNBC working…. I like to be able to listen to 3 of them…. If u can fix it that would be super. all in all, to me I like ur app and thank you for ur product (considering sirius/xm itself doesn’t bother to have an app for windowsphone!)

Love the app, but almost all of the channels I listen to do not work. I keep getting the playback error. My account is less than a month old. It’s the XM Premier. Alt Nation, Fantasy Radio, NFL Radio and a few others are among the ones I have noticed that do not work. Is there a fix for this?
Also, I”m using the HTC Trophy. Go ahead and email me the answer, as I do not know when I will visit this site again.

why do you need flash on windows phone? Flash is not supported on windows phoen and not required by this app.
You need to go to PC and login to https://www.siriusxm.com/player/ and see if you can login. If you can’t that means your accout doesn’t support webstreaming that is required by the app.

i get the channel listing but all channels give the error “Media Playback Failed: Channel may not be available on Phone” error. I have an xm account for my car, subscribed to the 30 trial for internet access, it seems to connect ok & certainly gives me the station listings but none of them will actually play. i think i checked xm when i ran the app the first time. i don’t see any options/settings except “Auto play on start.” Help please. thanks.

app is working ok except – the currently playing listings are entirely wrong.

Love the app, but many of the channels still do not work. Ones that I really would like to listen to at work are the NFL Channel and the Fantasy Sports channel. I am a new XM subscriber (signed up in July) and I have the XM option selected, so that isn’t the problem. One thing I did notice is that you have the fantasy channel listed as 210, when it is channel 87 for XM. Could that be making a lot of the channels not work? Please, email me back.

Go there and when it asks which service, select “XM” and then choose “XM Premier” for the package and it should give you a list of all the channels.

I am also having problems getting channels 29, 810, 812, 813, and 22 to work. I get the following error: “Media Playback Failed: Channel may not be available on Phone” whenever I attempt to launch these channels. I am currently on a trial of the app and Sirius while I am testing out this application. My phone is an HTC Arrive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app but the behavior does not change. Any thoughts on what I need to do to get these channels towork?

Not every channel works as there are no published apis and the application uses an old system to get the streaming music.

Just wanted to drop a note saying that this app rules. Makes my workday pass by so much faster. Works nearly flawlessly on my AT&T Samsung Focus running Mango.
Perhaps the only criticism I could level at this app is that it doesn’t show artist/album data in the media control window during background playback. But I don’t even know if that is possible with the current background audio implementation in Windows Phone, so this criticism is half-hearted at best.

You need to have a proper subscription with SiriusXM to use this app. The free trial account was also with SiriusXM now that’s expired, you need to get a new one (with web streaming).

Not sure if there’s anything you can do about it but playback stops when interrupted by alarm or if i unplug the headset. After that the play button no longer works and says error please start the program. I figured out that if i touch the message it launches the application and i’m able to restart playback. Would be nice to have an option for it to continue playback when the headset is unplugged without interruption.

I meant you can tried from normal computer to make sure your account is configured for web streaming. If you can login there, you should be able to use the app.

I am having plenty of success with this app. It is my go-to app for music while walking, driving… just about anywhere, really. It is almost single-handedly responsible for me running over my 2GB data cap last month.
It’s finicky when running in the background, but it works well enough for me.

The trial version worked beautifully. I decided to renew my subscription for my car and internet. I paid for your app. Now when I try to listen to shows like Oprah I get a message that tells me it might not be available for my phone. It worked great during the trial. I can listen to it on my PC on the internet. I have called SIriusXM several times. I have the correct subscription. Why can’t I listen to all the stations now?

Sirius just released an update to their iOS app that includes some really cool features, such as begin able to restart a song or a show from the beginning, and pausing/fast forwarding/rewinding to the next song. If these features could be made available on your app, that would be amazing. As it is now, the app works terrifically. My one nitpick is that the app should be able to keep playing after a data disruption. At a minimum, the app should at least give a visual indication that it has stopped streaming.

You account has to be provision for web streaming. If you can listen on http://www.siriusxm.com/player then it should work on phone as well.

I’ve been attempting to try out your free version to determine whether I want to purchase. I cannot login. I have XM account, and have tried with and without the box checked. What on earth is the problem, and yes I pay for streaming.

I’m amazed at how many people have serious problems with this app and it stays in the marketplace. It doesn’t work like any of the real sirrius/xm apps and It should be removed. Free or 1.99, it doesn’t work.

Is there any way to update this to allow the MLB play-by-play stations to stream? I am getting the “not available on phone” error. It seems like this is a new change from Sirius, so maybe the app just needs an update?

You need to have a valid siriusxm subscription to use the app. The free or the paid version of the app doesn’t matter when it comes to siriusxm subscription.

Do you have a sirius or xm account? Some old xm accounts doesn’t work very well on the phone. Also, you need to have web streaming subscription in order for app to work.

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!
Me: Nokia Lumia 900 / Windows 7.5 / SIrius subscriber since 2004. I also have the Best of XM package. Satelite works great in my car, works great on the web, and works great on Android and Apple apps. But with Buddy, many channels do not play (Dylan, Virus…. long list). This same issue is mentioned repeatedly here (and as far back as August 2011), which implies that nothing is being done or will be done to correct it. This should be an embarrassment for this app creator. The replies that appear here ( “It should work” and “Please remember that not all channels are available on this app” and it works fine with trial version) tell the story. If you’re a new satelite radio user, you might be okay. If you’re not, make sure to try before you buy.

I understand your frustration but I have been explicit about this limitation. This is not an official app and thus have limitations. Both free and paid version have the same functionality and the only difference is one is ad funded. You can try the trial version and it should behave exactly the same with paid.

I have been using your app for months. In the past month or so, I can no longer listen to the NFL channel 88. I can listen on a computer but it will not stream on my phone. This is the one channel I have used your app for most. Other channels seem to work fine. When I attempt to play the NFL channel it appears to work, but no sound ever comes out. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled, then I bought the pay version and same issue. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunetly its not under my control. There are limited channels those are available to stream on phone so its a limitation which we have to live with till siriusxm release an officical api.

Dan I just purchased the XM Buddy app for my Windows Phone so I too can listen to the Angels games on the go as I can’t listen on my Sirius Car Radio either. Did you find any solution?

you probably already answer this question but i used the free trial and didnt have no problems purchasing for 1.99. I got confirmation and everything in my email. Now when it download the same siriusxm buddy i try to use the same passwords of course it said free trial expired. so than i try to use my windows live id and of course that failed too. how do you get a log in and password on the 1.99 feature. nobody seems to have answer on how to get program back up and running again. thank you

I installed your app on my HTC Trophy. It looks very good however all of my channels give me an error when i try to play them. I get “Media Playback failed: Channel may not be available on phone”

Really close, lots of potential here — but something is amiss. I have XM All Access, and am logged in as an XM account. Some channels work in your app, some do not — for example Howard 100 and 101 work, but O&A on 206 does not … MSNBC on 117 works, SiriusXM Patriot on 125 does not. The error is “Media Playback Failed. Channel May Not Be Available On Phone”. All of these work fine on the web site or iPhone. Not sure why, but I’m hoping you can sort it!

I bought your app for my new windows phone. I only use 2 stations, Howard Stern and the NFL network. I have no problem listening to Howard, but the NFL network does not work. It says it is playing, but no noise comes out.

I have that app, but it does not function great. I can not get the NFL network, and when I listen to Howard Stern, if the screen goes to sleep it shuts off. So I can either keep my screen lit up, and kill my battery in an hour or 2, or keep unlocking my phone every 15 seconds. Neither one is a good option.

I am finding that album art and song information flat is not working, which is a pretty critical feature of satellite radio that people expect in apps like this. Between that and “oh, I’m not going to filter the channel list, you’ll just have to guess what works and what doesn’t,” I’m not especially inclined to pay the asking price.

I sent an email a few days ago about not being able to access the app even though I have an annual internet subscription. I used to be able to access the app and it no longer lets me sign on even though I’m entering the user name and password I use to gain access to the Sirius site.

Simple question: if I buy the full version will I get the MLB Channels? Currently with trial version no MLB. It shows the current score correctly on the screen for the channel but will NOT stream the live game. I’ve been trying to access 915 Chicago White Sox and I am an XM subscriber. Otherwsie all music channels I’ve tried seem to work fine.

Ok here is the Issue, I bought the Sirius XM app and know that this is a 3 rd. party. I can say that some channels work and some don’t. If you are saying that we need to have an online account from Sirius xm so we can use your app and all the online channels should work, then when do you think that all the channels we pay for to Sirius xm direct to use them on your app will be available. As of now the channels look like that they are shrinking. We should see that we are getting more channels added. I also am not seeing the info being displayed on which info is playing at the time.

Greetings, I have a purchased version of SiriusXM Buddy installed on an HTC Titan II and I have two issues: 1. I get an error whenever I try to resume/play from lock screen-this happens if I pause it or it stops because of a call/text. 2. It rarely auto resumes after a text/call and as mentioned, I am unable to resume from the lock screen. Thanks in advance for your kind consideration.

I have updated the name to reflect it correctly. Its a 3rd party app and the only way you can listen to Sirius/XM subscription on windows phone.
I understand there are limitations but hopefully it provides some value. In addition, all the features are available in free/trial version so I hope people don’t feel they are mislead.

Have you talked to the guys at CatPig Studios (http://www.catpigstudios.com)? Their app Radium has SiriusXM Online Radio support, including support for many channels that I can’t get through Satellite Radio on WP7, such as Tiesto’s Club Life Radio, Studio 54 Radio and others.

Kudos for building the app. Perhaps if you said music stations only, it would not be misleading. Or are there some music stations that don’t play? There are additional sporadic issues with streaming. It speeds up. It goes on and off during a song. It cuts off totally. And then sometimes several songs play in a row with no problem.

When I did a trial membership stations like OutQ worked fine. Now I have a paid subscription it doesn’t. SiriusXM says its the software because its not officially supported AND the software developers say this problem is with the network SiriusXM. Each points a finger at the other meanwhile I’m stuck in the middle with no access to the one channel I really wanted. Please find the problem and fix it! I want OutQ108 access using my WP7 (7.5) CELL. Thank you.

Tested on other third party apps,
Musicdock for iPod touch cant play the channels, but it can play pop2k and 20on20 (just discovered that channel works)
Looks like sirius pulled the streams, the official apps (for my iPod, website streams) play all ok.
It’s happened before, just wait might be back

On or around October 1st, Sirius/XM shut down their legacy streams that most 3rd party applications like the SiriusXM Buddy Player uses. It is not certain if this is permanent or if its just a glitch on their side that they will eventually fix. The same thing happened last year, and after a month Sirius turned the streams back on. Since Sirius/XM do not provide any support for 3rd party applications and will not answer any questions you don’t know if they will turn them back on.

I would like to know if you have any idea why this app no longer works on my phone (Nokia). I had the free Sirius Buddy since I bought the phone in July. Suddenly two weeks ago it stopped working. Upon auto log in it looks as though all is normal but there is no playback. So deinstalled that app and bought the upgrade. It’s wierd because you’d think if it was an issue with Sirius XM you wouldn’t be able to log on and have all of the channel listings and song titles etc come up. It literally is just no sound. Demo worked fine. Went ahead and paid for te full version and “poof” no longer works. I get a message that says “error: please start playback on app”.
HTC Radar, WIn 7.5
See lots of other have issue as well. New version doesn’t seem to work. Please fix or offer refund.

I wanna know why I can’t get my channels. I feel like I’ve been ripped off. When I first installed this application it was great but recently it only works on 1 station. I have a wp7 phone. Please respond to my comment. Thank you.

You cannot get a reply from anyone responsible for this app. Sound still does not work on most channels. Sirius/XM evidently doesn’t support any app unless it is for Iphone, android or Blackberry. The creator of the app for Windows 7 phones does not respond to any of the inquiries I have sent.

Huge Fail! Could be a mix of ATT & SirusXM having a pissing match or this app is what it is, a cheap knock-off that should not be posted in the WIN Phone Marketplace. Worked for a couple months now all my Favorited Channels will not work. I see album displays which update etc. No sound. Replaced phone after ATT thought device may be an issue, no go. Waste of money and time…

As posted on my main page, the SiriusXM Buddy is no longer working because of Sirius stopping the legacy streams. I am not sure if I will be able to support the new streams and there are no official apis. Thanks for using the product while it worked and I hope to find a solution but can’t promise anything.

This app isn’t working properly for me. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled both the free and $1.99 versions and still does not work….very frustrating because I pay for Sirius radio and would like to listen to it in other places besides my home. Any help would be appreciated

FYI, I am still using this app on my Lumia 710 and it works. I subscribe to it via my Jeep radio and have the internet radio add on for my account. There was a point when it stopped working, but it is working fine now using my online subscription credentials. Thanks!
