Torrent Buddy for Windows Phone 7

Torrent Buddy is a client application which run on windows phone and communicate with your uTorrent client/webserver running on your PC. This is pretty handy to look at the status of your torrents and control them as needed. What’s unique about Torrent Buddy compared to other apps on market place is that it lets you add new torrents from any website and RSS feeds. Not only that, it also allows you to add torrent from sites which require authentication by adding your own cookie information.

Some features –

  1. Ability to Start, Stop, Pause, Delete torrents.
  2. View torrent details in a pretty list as well as drill down to get more details (like trackers and filelist).
  3. Manage multiple utorrent installation from single app.
  4. Ability to add your favorite sites and rss feeds.
  5. Add torrents from your favorite site and rss feeds.
  6. Support for sites/feeds requiring authentication (using cookies).
  7. and many other features.

This is first release and if there is enough feedback, I will add more features. Let me know what you want and how is it working for you.

The Trial version will support everything except adding new torrents.

Note – Torrent Buddy is now available for windows 8 – https://ashterisk.wordpress.com/torrent-buddy-for-windows-8/

Update – Version 1.0 is live on market place  – http://social.zune.net/redirect?type=phoneApp&id=4eb742c4-38f5-df11-9264-00237de2db9e

Setup Instructions

In order to use Torrent Buddy, you need to enable WebUI in uTorrent. Following shows step by step direction on doing this.

1. In uTorrent, click on Options -> Preferences  (ctrl + P)  to open preferences windows

2. Click on WebUI on the left side list.

3. Make sure to select “Enable Web UI” option and provide a username/password (this is what you would be required to enter in TorretnBuddy)

uTorrent WebUI preferences

4. Also, not the IP address of the machine where uTorrent is running. If you are connecting from local network, it would be the internal IP. If you are trying to connect from external network, you will have to specify the external IP and forward the port specified above in your router.

5. Launch  Torrent Buddy and select the “connections” options from the bottom options.

6. click on “+” (add) option to add new connection

7. You can enter a friendly name. Rest of the settings are based on your above information.

7.1 servername – ipaddress or DNS name (internal or external based on #4):port you sepecified in utorrent webui settings (for ex – 192.168.1.5:8080). Remember, this is based on your IP and port. The format is important as well.

7.2 Username – the username you specified in uTorrent WebUI settings.

7.3 Password – the password you specified in uTorrent WebUI settings.

7.4 leave default 5 secs refresh interval.

8. Click save and select the new connection.

That’s it. If everything is fine, you should see message saying “connection verified”.

    Great app!

If there was some way to filter labels it’d be perfect!

    November 29, 1999 at 4:00 pm

    • Not sure what you meant by filtering labels? The latest version contains support for labels. let me know if I am missing something

      December 23, 2010 at 9:34 am

      • darren

I must have tried an earlier version…

I just installed it again and viewing a list filtered by labels is definitely there. So I retract my prior statement and replace it with “It IS perfect!”

      • glad to hear 🙂

        December 27, 2010 at 4:58 pm

      • darren

In the WebUI there’s a filter for “no labels” in addition to all the individual labels, what are the chances of getting that added?

Hi, i have also connection problems. When i try to open the web ui on the computer though my 162.168.0 IP, it opens. But on torrent buddy i want to open it from outside the network and i made also an account on dyndns, and i type http://addressofthedyndns:utport in torrent buddy and using the same info for username and password in utorrent for the web ui but im still not able to connect any ideas?

    November 29, 1999 at 4:00 pm

    • does the webui works from outside? check your firewall settings.

Hey I couldn’t get this working remotely. I tried setting it up with the following,

    (external ip:utorrent listening port/gui)

is this correct? i tried it on my browswer with the internal ip, this works fine.

any updates in th eworks? would like to see speeds. and live tile info?

    December 8, 2010 at 5:18 pm

    • Hey, in order to access it outside your network, you would have to configure your IP with some dyndns service so that you can access with the dynname rather than IP and your IP could change. You will also require to forward your external port to the internal machine where utorrent is running and it should work.

If you can access from browser, the client should work fine as well. one thing, you need to specify the full address i.e http://ip:port (/gui is optional).

      Try that

        Hi ashterisk,
I’m able to get torrent buddy to connect to my PC when I’m on WIFI but when im using my mobile network it won’t connect… how do I connect to torrent buddy when I’m out in about?(which is really what the app is good for)

thanks for making an amazing app:)

        March 2, 2011 at 10:30 am

      • When you connect using mobile network, what IP address or servername do you use? Your home router would require to allow requests and route to your pc which is running utorrent. There are some instruction posted in the comments you may want to try.

Also, just to isolate the application problem, you should try to make sure you can access the utorrent webui using phoen browser. If that works, the application will work.
        Hope this helps.

Brillant app, and very simple to use. Features that would be nice to have are Live Tile ability, and the ability to select a file(s) within a torrent.

    December 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm

  5. Live tiles are hard as they require a service which your phone can reach. I will definetly look into selecting a file and actions associated with it.

Hi I just downloaded the torrent buddy on my new windows phone and I can’t figure out how to set this up so it works. Could someone email me at hellbringer34@yahoo.com a step by step process for this app I would really apricate it. thanks

    December 24, 2010 at 2:30 pm

    • Hi,

uTorrent setup – In uTorrent, go to options->Preferences->Web UI, Select “Enable Web UI” check mark. Enter a username and password and keep not of the connectivity port. This is what you will need to connect from torrent buddy (Select the check box and enter an alternative port).

Once you have done this. In Torrent buddy, on the start page, click on the app bar (bottom) and select connections. Click on the “+” (add) button and enter the values based on what you have specified in the web UI.

Friendly name – any name you want
server name – name or Ip address of the machine where uTorrent is running:Port. (inside the network it will be the local IP. If you want to access outside your network, will need to setup proper forwarding in your router, search on web how to do it if you don’t know). You will also need static ip if you don’t have (try dyndns.org, search it).
for ex- yorumachinename:port (what ever you selected).
Username – username you specified in web UI.
Password – you specified in web ui.

      auto-refresh – leave default to 5 secs.

      click save.
If everything is rignt, you should see it connected.

        http://192.168.1.1:11408/Michael-PC

        does this sound correct?
the first number is the ip address next is the port 11408 seprated by the : and then gui seprated by /

  7. Additional instruction on setting webui from utorrent (http://user.utorrent.com/documentation/webui) –

    Installation
To install the WebUI, after configuring it with the instructions in the section below, simply visit the WebUI URL in your browser (http://yourip:yourport/gui/ ) and µTorrent will download it automatically.
To install manually or upgrade to a newer version, visit the forum thread linked above for the download link to the latest version. After downloading, rename the file to “webui.zip” and place it in %AppData%\uTorrent (Paste this path into the Explorer address bar).
If running µTorrent in portable mode, place it in the same folder as the .dat files
    How to use the WebUI
Enable and configure the WebUI in µTorrent (Preferences -> Advanced -> WebUI)
If using the alternate port function, you must allow it in your firewall and forward the port in your router. If using UPnP, µTorrent will automatically forward the WebUI port.
Open up a supported browser and use the following URL format: http://YourIP:UTport/gui/
If the browser supports Username:Password (and you have the WebUI working with the first URL) then use the following URL format: http://Username:Password@YourIP:UTport/gui/
N.B: When using the WebUI locally use localhost or 127.0.0.1 as using your external (WAN) IP may cause problems when behind a router.

followed instructions exactly; still having connectivity issues inside and outside of network

    December 27, 2010 at 8:30 pm

    • First try inside the network and see if you can get it going. Before trying Torrent buddy see if you can access the uTorrent webUI. Once you can, Torrent Buddy should work without problem.

      December 27, 2010 at 10:13 pm

  9. OK so I found the easiest way of doing this guys was like this (my pc is connected via wifi)

    1.give yourself a static ip=
    start>control panel>network connections>right click you’re wireless connection>properties>

2.on the General Tab there is a box you can scroll down to, got to Internet protocol(TCP/IP)click on it and click properties

3.use the following IP Address example
    IP. = 192.168.1.3
    subnet = 255.255.255.0
Deafult gateway = (mine was) 192.168.1.1
    DNS server (mine was) 192.168.1.1
click ok to save then ok

    4. log in to you’re router(mine is Netgear so 192.168.1.1)
    5.go to port forwarding
    6.create new port forward
    Service Name = Torrent Buddy
    Service Type = TCP/UDP
Starting Port = chose a port
Ending Port = chose a port
Server IP Address (you’re static address)
save and log out you’re router

7.uTorrent setup – In uTorrent, go to options->Preferences->Web UI, Select “Enable Web UI” check mark. Enter a username and password and keep not of the connectivity port. This is what you will need to connect from torrent buddy (Select the check box and enter the port you chose for port forwarding).

Go to http://portforward.com/ and it will show you you’re IP.

fire up torrent buddy and open connections menu
9.Friendly name = whatever you want
Server name = http://yourIP:the port you chose
username = the same you chose for the settings in Utorrent
    Password = as above
    save
10.click the connection you created and press the tick box if you did everything ok then it should go back to the main screen and connect and then you can watch you’re torrents.

    Hope this helps

Gah! It’s not working! Tried everything!

  11. Greedo

I’m having trouble adding torrents with the app.
It worked before, now it doesn’t. Yes it’s the paid version.

I can connect to my uTorrent and browse my downloads and pause/restart/change priority, etc. from the app, I just can’t add any new torrents from the app.

I can add torrents from another PC over LAN or the Internet. I can add torrents from another (otherwise inferior 🙂 ) WP7 app as well, so I don’t think anything is wrong on my router or uTorrent setup.

I have tried several different torrent sites all of which worked before (until about 2 weeks ago). None require cookies (they worked before and I had never entered any cookie information).

When I attempt to download a torrent I get the’command sent to server’ message, but the torrent never gets added.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app with no luck.

    February 7, 2011 at 10:15 pm

    • Greedo

It seems my issue is with cookies. One of the sites I can’t get working now works with cookies, though I was downloading torrents from that site previously without cookies. Maybe they changed something on their end.

The other site (monova.org) still won’t work, and it doesn’t seem to use cookies. This site worked fine until recently.

      Any ideas?

Great app I bought it, what would be awesome would be the ability to add torrents by weburl, particularly when microsoft adds copy + paste.

Integrated piratebay/isohunt search and add in the app itself would be even better..

    February 8, 2011 at 7:02 am

  13. hi ashterisk,
    Thanks for this app , I purchased it , it seems very good but unfortunately i can connect it to my pc. I have followed your instructions;

    friendly name : uTorrent
    server Name : http://192.1680.2.16/Master-PC
    username : Master
    password : ******

I also opened the alternative port on the router but commection still fails.

    Please help!

    February 16, 2011 at 8:36 am

    • I belive you are enetering the server name incorrectly. you need to enter http://servernameorip:port
you can also try accessing the webui to make sure everything is setup correctly

      • There is nothing I have in code which specifically do anything with network connection. I believe it should work for whatever network connection you have enabled on phone. Have you tried accesing the webUI while on 3G to see if that works?

        February 22, 2011 at 2:05 pm

  15. Keith

okay i finally got this connected on 3g using my WAN ip… but i couldnt figure out the dyndns thing. Is this secure? Or do I have to worry about my WAN ip being broadcasted on the 3g network?

  16. Flaze

Hi, I was able to get this working on WIFI and 3G but now my 3g connection fails whenever I start up the app. I went to dyndns.org and made a server to host my ip address and i typed in blahblah.dyndns-home.com:port and it worked but now it stopped. I reset my modem and that changed my WAN ip address, but this dyndns.com server should be able to pick that up? I even tried just typing in my new ip address:port and that didn’t work either. Not sure why it worked and now it doesnt. Please help, I paid for this app:(

    March 7, 2011 at 8:33 pm

    • Flaze

Edit: I also changed the port in my utorrent and went into my modem and made sure that this new port was forwarded as well. I also have utorrent checked as an exception on my firewall.

How do I set up utorrent buddy?

    March 17, 2011 at 8:35 pm

    • You need to install uTorrent and configure to access it thru HTTP web UI. You can find instructions in earlier user comments as well as on uTorrent site.
Once you have configured the web UI (and made sure that you can access it thru browser), you can enter the information in the app and it should work.

I’m trying to use RSS feeds as favorites, but after selecting the RSS favorite I get the following:
    Error:NotSupportedException

This happens with several different feeds (ex. http://rss.bt-chat.com/?group=3 )

    April 3, 2011 at 8:47 pm

    • It seems the feeds are not standard. even IE is not able to parse and display.

  20. CJ107

Doesn’t seem to work anymore with new version of
    UTorrent (3.0b)

Connection is verified but torrents are no longer displayed.

    April 20, 2011 at 7:16 pm

    • I haven’t tested with 3.0 yet. Will definitely support 3.0 when ready.

      April 20, 2011 at 7:51 pm

      • Rob

When you say “Will definitely support 3.0 when ready.” do you mean when it’s out of beta? I’ve just tried with 3.0beta and the app crashes just after it’s verified the connection (does this happen with you CJ107?)

I’ve bought the app so would appreciate if you could test/update 🙂

        Thanks.

Hi. I am having a the same problem as another poster.

    Error: ExceptionNotSupported for:
    http://ezrss.it/feed/

    ..also for:
    http://rss.bt-chat.com

Thanks for your work. Would really appreciate if the rss method used by these feeds could also be supported (uTorrent itself seems to have no issue with these feeds).

    Cheers,

Hi I’m having a connection issue with this app.
I followed all instructions to the letter however I can’t get the connection to be verified. I believe the problem is in the server name section of the setup.
Where exactly would I go to find out what I need to put in this area? How do I determine whether I’m connection internally or externally?

Any and all help would be appreciated thank you 🙂

    May 1, 2011 at 1:47 am

    • This is a good place to read about enabling webUI in uTorernt – http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=33186
for servername, you need to specify the port as well if not using the default 80. serername:port

      May 1, 2011 at 5:54 pm

      • Darren Stranger

Ok I tried the website and I forwarded the port I was using but I’m still getting the connection failure is there anything else it could be?

  24. Recrem

finally after about 3-4 hours of trial and error, and numerous “i give up” moments, i finally got it to work,

    heres what i did,

    in utorrent,
    Options> Preferences> WebUI> Enable WebUI = check
put in my own username and password, apply and ok,

    then go
    Options> Setup Guide
    – at the bottom you should see “Current Port:(0:random)” enter a port number, mine was 47708

go onto your router(google: connecting to router) and find the port forwarding selection, add a new one and name it Utorrent, and make the TCP/UDP port the one from Utorrent setup guide (mine being 47708) then added the new port and save the changes

then go onto your phone and open up Torrent Buddy

    add a new connection
    Friendly Name: anything you want
    Server Name: http://111.111.1.111:47708
    Username: in utorrent WebUI options
    Password: in utorrent WebUI options

for the server name, in place of the 111.111.1.111 you need your ip address, so go to http://portforward.com/ and you’ll see “Your external IP is ……”

so if your external IP came up as an example 123.456.7.890 your server name on torrent buddy would be

    http://123.456.7.890:47708

i can’t say for sure this will work for everyone, but its what worked for me, i tried everything i seen in the comments and nothing worked, the only thing that did it for me was i used PFConfig to try and have that program do the port forwarding and it showed me the TCP/UDP ports Utorrent uses, but i was only using the trial so i then added the ports to the port forwarding on my router myself. at the same time i tested the above method i was also testing one i called torrent buddy, and used the TCP/UDP port 8080, which i also put on my router to forward, and then tried it, it didn’t work,

Is there a way to search for and add torrents within this app? I’m coming from android and the app torrent fu, where you setup your utorrent info, searched from your phone, then send it to your pc all within the app.

Is this just for managing rss torrents?

    May 20, 2011 at 4:54 am

    • Yes, you can add torrents both from public and private sites. Try out the trial version and if will let you explore everything.

      May 20, 2011 at 7:39 am

  26. Greg

I actually bought the app thinking I could search for torrents within it. I’m fine keeping it, but I have no idea how to add a torrent to it.

For instance if i go to eztv.it and pick a show, what steps do i do to initiate a download?

    May 20, 2011 at 9:44 am

  27. You should be able to add torrents from torrent buddy. For the above example, just click on the download link. If the link ends with .torrent, it will ask you if you want to add this for download. If it doesn’t, just click again and it will ask then.

I am assuming you have added the above site in your favorites list. If the above site is open (mean doesn’t require user to login before they can download), then no other setup is required. If it require username/password, you will have to specify cookies in the favorite setup.

    May 20, 2011 at 9:50 am

I see now, i was trying to initiate the download with the phones internet explorer app. Got it now, thanks!

Also, you can try connecting with browser just to eliminate issue with network. If browser if not connecting, the applicaiton will not.

to connect from browser, just type http://yourmachineiporservername:port/webui

Hi there, Im having difficulty setting up a connection. If my home computer is wired-In and my phone is connecting to the internet through wireless, should the IP used be the IP of the router or the host computer?
    Thanks for any help.

    June 4, 2011 at 12:48 pm

    • Hello, the IP would be the IP address of host computer. this is assuming you are trying to connect with in your network. If you are trying to connect from outside, you.will have to forward the port on your router and then use the external ip of your router (please search on how to forward ports).
      Hope this helps.

    http://ezrss.it/feed/
    http://www.bt-chat.com/rss.php?mode=cg&group=3&cat=9

    Any thoughts?

    July 14, 2011 at 1:36 pm

    • unfortuenetly the rss feeds are not supports by the code I am using. It also doesn’t show up well in IE.

Really like the application, thanks! There are a few thinks I would like to see.

    1. A way to sort the torrents in both the torrent category and label category, newest on top would be grand, rather than just alphabetical from A.

    2. Wonder if there is a way to change directory for the completed torrent on the fly rather than setting a default location in µTorrent.

    3. I use a secure connection occasionally, it would be nice to be able to change some preferences of µTorrent from within the app, specially connection details.

    4. It would be nice to be able to select all torrents in a label and start all, or just some kind of start all command…based on a label.

    5. Landscape support.

    6. Better rendering of websites.

Think that’s about it for now, thanks again, good stuff!

i f**kn love yer work dude. took me a while to figure out how to set it up, but i got there 😛 only thing im gonna grumble about (nit picking really) is i that i use a site that searches multiple torrent sites for torrents (torrentz.eu), and i cant access the other sites to download the torrents from my phone. so i gotta go to the other sites and find the torrent again. enabling me to go from one site to another would be a bonus! also, if possible change the add tracker box to enable adding more than one tracker at a time would be ideal. but as i said, its nitpicking 😛

    best app for sure!

    July 27, 2011 at 12:39 am

  37. Love the program, working great!

My one complaint is a minor interface problem with the phone software (running WP7 on LG Quantum). The panel for setting up the connection does not scroll properly, which makes it impossible to use the sliding keyboard in landscape view for anything but the first three fields, as well as making it impossible to scroll past the on-screen keyboard in portrait mode to access the last few fields or the save button. I have to carefully click on an empty area of the panel to make the keyboard go away, then I can select the next field or click the save button.

Of course, I’ve only had to set up the connection to my computer once, so it’s not much of a problem any more. It’s still probably worth looking into why it doesn’t behave like a normal menu panel (which allows normal finger scrolling at any time).

Great app! Having some issues to connect to torrent sites that require password. I’m not sure to work around the “cookie monster”.. I have located the cookies file from the respective site on my computer, but when I add all of it into the cookie link it still have the same issue (comes up with wrong login when I try to download)

Is there any special partion of the cookie I need to add (it’s a lot of text) or any guides that detail how to work with cookies?

    August 25, 2011 at 3:16 am

    • It varies from sit to site but generally username and password cookies are required. Remember you may still have to login on the site in torrent buddy browser even after adding the cookies as cookies are used by uTorrent on PC to download torrent file and not by torrent buddy on phone.

How do you add a torrent? I have the paid version and can’t find an add option.

    August 27, 2011 at 9:04 am

    • You need to add the website/rss feed in your favorite list and then browse to the torrent from there. It will automatically ask when you click on a torrent list.

Once I figured out the setup procedures, everything went smoothly. Perhaps a ‘help’ section on the actual app might alleviate this issue – which it seems everyone is having a problem with.

    August 29, 2011 at 9:10 am

    • Thanks for the feedback. I will definetly try to find a way to make it easier.

      August 29, 2011 at 9:46 am

  41. I have never gotten the add torrent to work. I have no idea how to add the cookie information?? Is there a way you can give a tutorial on how to do this? I’ve logged into a torrent site using the app, found a torrent and successfully downloaded it, but it never actually starts on my torrent client on the PC. I would appreciate very much if someone could help out with this.
    App works flawlessly otherwise.

    August 30, 2011 at 11:28 am

    • The cookies are required to be added when you add the website as favorite. Cookies are required if the site is private. You can look at the cookies using fiddler or you can use tools like – http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/iecookies.html
In the next release of the app, I will make it much easier to use cookies.

for those of you who want to know how to make this thing work on an external ip-address … (outside your wifi network or from your mobile connection)

first you have to know your external ip, for that there is the website http://www.portforward.com.
after that you go to your router and u must seach under advanced or under firewall or something similar depending on your router type and go to DMZ, put your external ip there and enjoy!

p.s use the external ip in torrent buddy too … for example: 80.38.106.22 … the settings will be 80.38.106.22:portnumber

Have you thought about adding rtorrent support to this? That would be greatly appreciated.

    September 12, 2011 at 9:13 am

  44. Please update to Mango, and please add other torrent program WebUI support please. For instance, Deluge. It doesn’t use a username for the WebUI only a password, so Torrent Buddy currently can’t connect to its WebUi

I can’t seem to add a torrent from websites like http://www.nyaa.eu which has a Download button for the torrents but I get a Error Not a valid torrent message in the app because the link on the button doesn’t point to a .torrent file but to something on the server it seems. Any way to get torrent buddy to work with these types of websites that have Download buttons with urls that don’t point directly to the .torrent files?

    October 23, 2011 at 9:30 am

    • I will look into this. If needed, I will add ability to add torrents by URL back with cookie.

      October 23, 2011 at 12:08 pm

    • I found a bug in the code. It will be fixed in the next update.

      October 23, 2011 at 9:03 pm

      • GP007

Ahh, that’s good, lots of the torrents I get come from nyaa.eu where the download button has a url that ends with something like download=324323 which seems to point to some server side database and not a direct .torrent file.

Also another thing I’ve noticed, i’ve turned on the background agent for the app yet the live tile info doesn’t seem to update unless I open the app again and then go back to start. Maybe I need to be on usb or main power so wifi stays on or something?

The way I tested this was by making the change directly in utorrent (taking a completed torrent that was seeding and stopping it) and then seeing if the live tile would update but nothing changed.

        October 24, 2011 at 11:39 am

      • The background agent only runs every 30 mins so it can take that long before updating the tile.
Sorry that’s the limitation of windows phone background agent.

        October 24, 2011 at 12:03 pm

      • GP007

Yeah, I saw that note in the app, but it doesn’t seem to update even after 30mins. Oh well, I’ll leave some stuff running and see if it changes at some point.

        October 24, 2011 at 12:12 pm

      • GP007

OK, i’ve done some more testing, I had started up 2 torrents before I went to sleep, 1 downloading and one in queue, plugged my phone in overnight while I slept so it’d charge and do any wireless syncing etc and in the morning the live tile had updated showing 2 torrents were seeding.

I unplugged the phone and then removed the torrents but now that the phone isn’t connected to usb or main power the tile hasn’t updated at all. Is the background agent not working over my 3G data connection? Does it require wifi or something?

  46. MrRusty

I’ve D/L the latest version onto my HTC HD7
I’m running uTorrent on port 55003 on my laptop that is running on my wireless network. From a D-Link DIR655 router, on the Shaw high speed network I have activated the Web Ui in utorrent, entered a login name and password and ticked Alternative listening port (55003)
On my router setup I have port forwarded my internal ip and port number for utorrent. ( Utorrent runs fine )
I know my external ip 24.67.69—— and my internal 192.168.0——
I have tried EVERY version of setup and still it comes back Connection failed WTF!

    October 24, 2011 at 4:53 pm

    • what are you entering in torrent buddy when adding connection? it should be your externalip:port i.e 24.67.69.XX:55003.

Also, try using browser to see if you can acess it from outside your network i.e http://externalip:port/gui

      October 24, 2011 at 5:09 pm

  47. MrRusty

I’ve tried entering the external ip 24.67.69—-:55003 and it fails. I have tried the internal ip with my phone radio turned off and just connecting with my wifi, Failed
I’ve tried with my web browser and entering http:// 24.67.69—:55003/gui, nothing. And I tried with my internal ip, nothing
I’ve also tried different apps, uView, uControl, Torrential, Torrent7 Pro, nuda zip nothing nointia
    Any other suggestions,
I’m to the point of throwing my ip’s out there with my login and password just to see if I can be hacked 🙂

    October 25, 2011 at 9:45 am

    • hmm.. lets try internal part first to make sure its not your machine. Most likely its the firewall. Check to see that its allowed to accept incoming connection on the port you are specifying. Also, make sure you are turning webUI settings (which is different from remote setting in 3.0).

Also try entering http://localhost:Port/gui from the machine where utorrent is running to ensure that webui is configured properly.

I can connect to my utorrent client fine though, and I can stop/start and remove any torrents that have already been running on the PC but just adding new ones don’t seem to work at all.

        October 27, 2011 at 2:57 pm

BTW, any plans to add the ability to change download and upload rates for torrents?

        October 27, 2011 at 11:55 pm

  50. MrRusty

OK so I tried from my laptop (firefox) while I had uTorrent running (on the same laptop) entered 192.168.0.—:5503/gui
No connection, I was running uTorrent 2.2, then upgraded to Utorrent 3.0 Nothing
Both programs activate WEB UI the same way. Through options-preferences-advanced, then tick enable Web UI.And I even checked alternative listening port (default is connection port) 55003 Straight forward. Nothing
I even downloaded the zip file (webui.zip) for uTorrent in case it didn’t install and installed it.
On my router ( D-Link DIR-655 ) port forward page I have port forwarded my internal ip for my laptop 192.168.0.— and allowed incoming traffic on port 55003 TCP UDP both allow
    Turned my firewall off…
    Any more suggestions

    October 26, 2011 at 2:17 pm

  51. MrRusty

I should also add my antivirus program is ESET Smart Security Version 4

    October 27, 2011 at 8:15 am

    • You may want to turn off all antivirus and firewall as it seems the issue is some what related to your machine being able to start the webui properly.

      October 27, 2011 at 2:56 pm

  52. w3lshm3n

I’ve been able to get it to connect. Added the port# in the firewall for TCP/UDP and for both incoming and outgoing. In uTorrent in the webUI, I had
at the phones external IP address added with the connectivity box checked.

Really it seems i did everything MrRusty has done. But when i start up it doesn’t connect. I have to try reconnecting a number of times, After so many tries/After an amount of time?, it would eventually would connect. But it just works on my home network , can’t connect outside it.
And It’s all set up with the ext. IP. But it works at home and I use it. Better than battling over computer with everyone else.

    October 27, 2011 at 10:07 pm

  53. Keith

I’m really loving this app (and the new update). One question: Is it possible to make this app continously connect to my Ext. Ip. even though it’s not a static IP? It kind of sucks having to change my Ext. Ip. Connection info in Torrent Buddy everyday.

      Hi,
I am able to see the torrents from my PC, not from my phone.
And Yes, Before I updated the torrent buddy to full version, I was able to see the torrents and I was happy and hence I bought the full version.
I remember I had to re-install by uninstalling and I may be missing something in creating the new connection/configuration.

But if my connection is wrong, I should not be able to go inside the application, I am able to open the torrent buddy application, use all the four functionalities. but cannot see any torrents.
I added a torrent using the torrent buddy application also. it said a message(torrent successfully added, but don’t know where it went).

Does TorrentBuddy write logs on what is happening? If yes, Are they on client side and accessible?. I can look and determine

      Thanks and Regards,

  55. I just want to thank you for how awesome this app is. It is never leaving my home screen. It took a few mins to setup along with some patience and it works flawlessly on both 3G and Wireless. Adding torrents while I am away and seeing their progress always puts a smile on my face. I found that it worked best for me when I created 2 different connections. One for 3G and another for Wireless because of the different IP addresses. Now I have no problems at all. If anyone needs any help let me know!

Thank you Ashterisk for your hard work, it is appreciated and Windows Phone needs more great developers like you!

    December 13, 2011 at 6:51 pm

    • Its for utorrent only.

      December 13, 2011 at 11:33 pm

  57. Are you going to update this app for the new uTorrent 3.1 client? I would love to use this app, but it requires directly connecting to your PC and not through uTorrents WebUI Portal (https://remote.utorrent.com).

    December 30, 2011 at 3:53 pm

    • I had just updated to 3.1, so I was asking before I looked to see that there were options to specify a specific TCP port for the WebUI to listen on as well. I still would love to know if you are going to add support for remote.utorrent.com as well.

      December 30, 2011 at 3:56 pm

      • You can specify a differnt port for webUI,.
The remote.utorrent.com uses a custom protocol and doesn’t expose api for 3rd party to create remote applications.

Great App! I feel the same though as a lot of people that it is/was difficult to setup an external connection. Perhaps a applicable work around for this would be to put in a feature allowing people to “Queue” torrent links until they get home, then when the app detects the PC on the internal network it adds all the “Queued” torrent links to uTorrent to begin the download. Only reason I would want to access uTorrent when im away from home is because I suddenly think “Ah I should download that when I get home!” but like so many others I ALWAYS forget to >.< Hope this is a worthy suggestion 🙂 But otherwise loving the app.

    It’s nice. A clean interface, and after it’s set-up it’s simple.
My only issue is needing to put in the IP address. See, I (as well as most people) have a dynamic IP address. So, should I loose my Internet connection for any reason, I get a new IP address forcing me to look up that and change the settings in the app.
It would be nice to have it auto get that info.

    March 23, 2012 at 5:15 am

Or perhaps this is not supported?

I’m having the same issue. App works great other than this. I use custom labels to fwd my files to specific folders (movies, books, tv shows). I’m unable to set the label on the download, which causes it to be placed in a default folder. Are you still supporting this product?

I use stunnel in conjunction with WebUI for https. Sadly when I use stunnel + https, Torrent Buddy doesn’t seem to like it. I got it working no problem with standard http but as soon as I connect with https the connection won’t validate.

I can browse the WebUI in any normal Internet Browser via https no problem and can even access it from the outside as I port forwarded the address + port I binded stunnel onto.

I thought maybe your app might not have the scope of https when it looks at the server URL or maybe the stunnel setup might be throwing it off.

Is there anything you could do about this ashterisk?

    Thanks,

    July 2, 2012 at 3:49 pm

I have a dynamic IP so i cant change that so would be using DYNDNS.

Could someone let me know where exactly in utorrent do I give then IP and the DYNDNS address?

I can access the webui when using http://myip:listeningport/gui/ just fine.

Now I have a dynamic Ip so the above IP would change soon therefore Im looking at DYNDNS to access this.

In my router port mapping ive already forwarded an IP and port xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxx:xx.

Ive also got a dyndns address: http://www.xxxxxxx.com

    Where Im stuck:

How,what and where do enter these setting exactly in utorrent 3.2?

    Any help would be appreciated.

In my version of utorrent (3.2.2) the WEB UI is under the advanced settings and when I enabled that I got the connection working.

I was however hoping for an app that downloads to my phone instead of my computer and also the PC must be running and utorrent started, so this app is useless for me but fortunately it was not so expensive but if I knew then what I know now I wouln’t have bought it.

I’m having the same issue. App works great other than this. I use custom labels to fwd my files to specific folders (movies, books, tv shows). I’m unable to set the label on the download, which causes it to be placed in a default folder. Are you still supporting this product?

I have an LG NAS N2A2 that runs uTorrent 2.2. I am able to set up the connection and the connection is verified. However, I do not see any torrent listed although there are multiple torrents running and visible in the WebUI that comes with the NAS. It uses port 8000 and /torrent as a directory for http access. Any ideas what could be wrong?

    Thank you for your reply!
