Messenger (by ashterisk) PC Companion setup
- Download PC companion software from – http://ashterisk.com/messenger/files/messengercompanion.zip
- Extract the content of the zip file on your local machine.
- From the extracted content, launch “Messenger.Companion.exe”
- Enter your yahoo username and password and click on “Login”
- Once authenticated, the application will start listening for pairing request from
phone. The application opens a port to receive request from your phone. If you
see a confirmation from windows, please allow it. - Take a note of IP address and port information. You will need to enter these in
phone application setup.
Phone application setup –
- Purchase Messenger (by ashterisk) v2.0 from marketplace – http://social.zune.net/External/LaunchZuneProtocol.aspx?pathuri=navigate%3FphoneAppID%3D5e832a0d-5115-e011-9264-00237de2db9e
- Make sure your phone is connected to local wifi and not using cell -data (When using wi-fi, the phone will get internal IP and it will be able to see the PC. When using Cell data, it will not be able to communicate to your internal home computer).
- Login using the same yahoo userid/password as used on PC application. Make sure to select remember password and auto-login ( reuse your session and autologin). This is must for toast-notification to work.
- Click on application bar and select settings.
- Enable “push notification” and enter ip address and port from step # 6.
- Click on “Start Pairing” and if everything goes well, you should receive a toast notification
confirming pairing.
Please note –
- Yahoo allows only one login session per user. After pairing, if you login on any
other machine (PC or other client), you will logoff from your phone. - Once you logoff from your phone (either manually or because you login at other
location), you will have to re-pair your phone with PC companion application. - You can run PC companion application on multiple machines and can pair with any instance.
- If you exit the phone application without explicitly logoff (by pressing home
button or back button), you will remain login and continue to receive notifications. - For any problem or question, send emails to – ashterisk@live.com

Hi,
I have a “Failed to open channel” on the phone.
W7 x64 on PC, firewall exception allowed for 8888; Nodo on WP7. Any help?
Note: you should allow trial for testing notifications. If it won’t work I’ll ve very pissed off of paying for nothing.

This is probably because you have more than 15 apps with push notification channel opened. Windows phone only allow max of 15 apps.
You will have to unselect the push option on other apps.

ohh, another thing. Make sure when you are doing this pairing, you are using wifi and not GSM as when connected thru GSM, the phone will not find the PC inside your Home LAN.

I tried to install this today July 3,2011 and Norton internet secririty whipped it right off the pc with thier SONAR.

There is no virus in the package. Not used Norton but you should be able to explicitly allow it.

I’m new at this, can i turn off or close pc companion and still get the push notifications on my phone? I have a samsung focus wp7

No, the pc companion app needs to be running in order to receive notifications.

I have the Samsung Focus as well. I am wondering what the push notification is. Is it to receive the response of the person I am Instant messaging immediately?

Yes, with push notifications you will get a message even when the app is not running on your phone.

I am getting an error message when trying to launch the messenger.companion. exe file. It says:
To run this application, you must first install on the of the following versions of the .NET Framework:
v4.0.30319
Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the NET Framework.
Can someone help me with that?

You need to install Microsoft.net framework 4.0 which is freely available from Microsoft site. If you search you will find it very easily.

When the phone pair correctly, you should see te status change in the companion app as well as get a message on phone app.

ATTENTION: SAMSUNG FOCUS USER’S – IN ORDER FOR YOUR PHONE TO WORK CORRECTLY WITH THE TOAST NOTIFICATION PROGRAM YOU MUST CHANGE THE PORT# FROM 8888 TO 80. THIS MUST BE DONE ON BOTH THE PC APPLICATION AND YOUR PHONE BEFORE YOU HIT THE PAIR BUTTON ON YOUR PHONE. THE SAMSUNG FOCUS PHONE DOES NOT SUPPORT PORT 8888

I get error message saying invalid username/password, but they are correct. I also cannot download the pc companion even though i installed the net framework.

The pc companion is no longer supported/needed. The app supports background notification.
Please see if you can login on the web to ensure your account is valid.

I am not sure which contacts are you referring to. There is no support for syncing contacts from messenger with your computer with our without pc companion.
